Back Down West Once More

For the third weekend in a row we're back in Cornwall, which would be good under other cicumstances.  We are staying in the Alverstone Manor Hotel in Truro on the eve of Claire's mum's funeral.  For some reason we've been upgraded in our hotel room and appear to have the best suite in the hotel (it used to be a nunnery) which is nice.  Possibly they felt sympathy for us because when I phoned to book and they asked "Is it for business or pleasure?" I replied "neither - it's for a funeral".

We went over to Newquay when we got down here to the home where Claire's mum lived her final 8 years to pick up her belongings - three bin bags full of clothes, which doesn't seem an awful lot of possessions to end on.  There were also a dozen bills from British Gas covering both gas and electricity - £1400 on each. I'm not sure what's gone wrong there but I think they'll be struggling to get the money from her now.  Lowlight of the visit was discovering an old lady in her pants wandering the corridors like a zombie.  Is it bad taste that afterwards we laughed at that?

Anyway, the hotel is jolly nice, but tomorrow promises to be jolly not nice.
