Musicness

The choice has been made - violin and drums.

Are there any other two instruments that could strike more fear into the hearts of the parents of a seven year old who wants to learn how to play something?

Drums need not be a disaster if you get him some of those electronic ones that have a volume control and, perhaps even better, a headphone socket.

As far as the violin goes, you are screwed.

Are you completely insane? Who is in charge there? OK I had bagpipes, briefly when I was young, but my m&d soon put paid to it

Well, if you fancy trying out the violin I have one that sam could try. bless, my parents probably felt the same when I was learning!

There's always the piano-accordian which is worse. Not from the noise point of view, but certainly the family dishonour.

I don't know which made me cringe most - the electric guitar itself or the sound of furniture/walls/floor being assaulted in frustration during practice sessions!

I can honestly say that noises like that just don't affect me the same way as it seems they do most folk.
I reckon we'll have Sam on squealy violin, Rich on crash bangy drums and me on droning rhythm guitar - the neighbours will love us!
