The latest item in the ever-increasing "list of things that have broken or gone wrong in the two months we have lived in March House" is the washing machine. Yesterday it started to refuse to start to spin. It just sat there full of wet trousers, making a funny noise and not spinning. Time to deploy my DIY skills once more.
So I pulled the machine out from under the counter, set it to "spin" on the dial and assertively applied an almighty kick to its side, whereupon the drum made a rotational twitching movement and the electicity to the ring main simultaneously turned itself off in the fusebox. I assume that something in the washing machine shorted out - prognosis not good.
Having reset the trip switch under the stairs I tried the washing machine again, fully expecting to blow myself up or electrocute myself but surprisingly that didn't happen. What did happen was that the washing machine started working again. Its sulk was over and we were back to normal. See? I can do DIY after all.
