Wow. Weird. I've blogged before about our house-selling/buying saga. It went very strange over the last couple of days.Â
We originally sold our house to a first-time buying couple back in Spring. However, the lady who we were buying a house from took absolutely ages to communicate with her solicitor and supply all the necessary paperwork relating to planning permission for extensions, etc. There was also a planning issue with a window in the second bedroom which looked like being a complete nightmare to sort out. In the end we had to pull out of the deal with her and the chain collapsed.
Our buyers hung on for the month or so we've had to look for a different house to buy. Eventually we found a lovely thing - a big detached Victorian building with loads of room and a decent sized garden. We put in an offer last Thursday and it was accepted! Yay! Celebrations!
Claire immediately phoned our buyers on Thursday evening to let them know the good news. "That's great!" said Joy, "I can't wait to tell Johnny!".
They seemed happy and so on Friday afternoon we were everso slightly surprised to receive a call from our estate agents telling us our buyers were pulling. And more than slightly miffed when the estate agent said that this couple had actually put an offer in on another house over a week ago. Gah! End of celebrations!
So later yesterday we called the estate agent who was dealing with the house we wanted to buy and let them know the bad news. Their reaction was to ask us whether we wanted to remarket our house through them to which we agreed - we didn't have a lot to lose after all. A chap came round that evening and took down our particulars. I warned him that I had a very unfavourable view of estate agents.
"I'll have to do something to remedy that" he said.
"Yes, sell my house before the end of the weekend!" I replied.
"Ok" he said.
Yeah right. Our house had been on the market for about 3 months before we had an offer last time around.
In the end they sent around a couple to take a look this afternoon so I gave them the usual blurb as I showed them around. And then guess what? ten minutes after they left the estate agent phoned us up to say they had put an offer in. We accepted. Everything is back on track again! Hooray! Our house has just sold within less than 20 hours on the market.
Everybody keep things crossed - with our track record this is almost certainly going to end in failure.
