Rich of March House

From where we live in Hampshire to where we wanted to go in Suffolk for the weekend was 170 miles. It took six hours to drive it - that's a magnificent average of less than thirty miles per hour, which is probably only slightly faster than a horsey could do it, provided the horsey wasn't stuck in the traffic on the M25 like we were.

In order to bypass the traffic jam we were stuck in we cunningly took a short cut through even more traffic in Enfield, during which we firstly got rear-ended by an idiot in a car behind us in the traffic queue, and then witnessed a full-on house fire attended by seventeen million fire engines, thirty five billion police cars and an ambulance, which helped alleviate the boredom of sitting there not moving.

Oops - with sincere apologies to Lois, I appear to be up to five now, and therefore halfway to my target of ten.

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away Claire and I first met each other, and around that time we owned a cassette tape full of recordings of lots of different versions of the classic song "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin which we used to listen to and laugh at. I remember well the versions by Rolf Harris, the Australian Doors, and the Rock Lobsters (a B52s tribute band).

Sadly this cassette tape got lost in our four changes of address since then, not helped at all by the demise and extinction of magnetic tape technology.

But even more sadly, it seems the magic of the internet means that all those covers of that classic song are unfortunately still available. See here if you want your ears to bleed.

This is a test.

I went out to the pub last night with some chums from work and ended up walking home five miles or so. It was a lovely evening and I spotted a few interesting sites en route so I took some photos of them with my phone. They're a bit dark and rubbish but then it is only a cameraphone.

Firstly, as I wandered up a small lane leading out of the village where the pub was I came across a local resident's rather amateur effort at persuading the through-traffic to slow down. I apologise for the language, but:

Then I found a sign for a local Japanese nursery. Is it just me or is there a spelling mistake on this sign? You'd think someone whose business was based (and named after) japanese trees would know how they are spelled:



Finally, I found a house where the owner had landed his biplane in the front garden, as you do:



So that was an interesting walk home.
